HISTORY OF THE
SAN FERNANDO VALLEY BRUINS

The first regional support group formed under the auspices of the UCLA Alumni Association was the West Valley Bruins. From a core group of key people who started meeting in 1972, a steering committee was formed led by Gloria Griffin who also became the first head of the Alumni Association Regional Support Groups. The first West Valley Bruins Board of Directors was established in 1975 with Paul Griffin as President. A few years later in 1977, a steering committee was led by E.C. and Jane Beal who established the East Valley Bruins and held the office of President. The East Valley Bruins operated for 10 years before disbanding.

In 1992, the West Valley Bruins changed its name to the San Fernando Valley Bruins (SFVB) in order to provide a UCLA contact for all Bruin fans and friends in the East as well as West San Fernando Valley.
